Harish is the star of the study center
posted December 12, 2013

Thank you for supporting Eureka SuperKidz (ESK) in their efforts to provide under-privileged children with quality education. In the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, more than 50% of children in grades 3 to 5 are unable to read, write, and do basic math. Your contributions help after-school support classes that provide high quality education to children who have fallen behind. They develop fun activities to keep the children involved.
A fifth grader and son of farmers, Harish is clearly the star student of the Eureka SuperKidz center in Tamil Nadu. He attempts to strike a conversation in English and he proves himself successful by using apt English words. With support and help for the ESK center from individuals like you, Mirunan, Harish’s dream of learning English has become a reality. He likes how the ESK center has helped not only him but also his friends to think well and apply that knowledge in whatever ways possible. He feels that his success is also a consequence of the good teaching there.
Thank you, Mirunan and Jibu, for your generosity.

Caring teachers help Ashwini succeed
posted March 7, 2013

Thank you for supporting Eureka SuperKidz and collaborating to provide six months of salary to a teacher. An AID India Education Initiative, Eureka SuperKidz operates in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, where more than 50% of children in grades 3 to 5 are unable to read, write, and do basic math. Eureka offers after-school support classes that provide high quality education to children who have fallen behind and develop fun activities to keep the children involved. Your contributions ensure Ashwini and other children have access to kind and caring educators.
Ashwini is in class 4 and a regular visitor of the Eureka SuperKidz Center in her area. Her father is a truck driver at Chennai and her mother lays roads under the 100 days employment scheme. Through the center, Ashwini started reading small words and upgraded with ease to reading sentences. She was given reading material to measure her confidence and within 1 minute she read 10 simple words, 7 complex words and 6 sentences of a song without help. This improvement was only possible because of the quality tutors at the center that you supported with your donation.
With support and help from you, Cindy, Ashwini is empowered to spread her knowledge — she now teaches her brother Harish simple addition. She also took interest in his other subjects and took responsibility preparing him for a class test in English. Thank you for your support, Cindy!

Sisters are the first to arrive at the Center
posted March 7, 2013

Thank you for supporting Eureka SuperKidz (ESK) in their efforts to provide under-privileged children with quality education. In the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, more than 50% of children in grades 3 to 5 are unable to read, write, and do basic math. Your contributions help after-school support classes that provide high quality education to children who have fallen behind. They develop fun activities to keep the children involved.
Ilakiya and Initha study in class 3 and class 5, respectively, at a school near the ESK center in Tamil Nadu, India. These sisters are the first ones to come to the Eureka Super Kids center and start studying. According to the tutor, the sisters were very silent and less participative upon arrival but now they are quite the opposite. Ilakiya takes initiative to teach the other children in the group while her sister loves to study English and has shown improvement at school. When asked to speak in English, Initha gleamed with enthusiasm, listed all the birds and animals she knew, and gave wonderful details on her family.
Ilakiya and Initha’s parents both work to support their children’s education. Her mother works under the 100 day employment scheme (NREGA). With your support, Barbara and Indu, these sisters are making great strides in and out of the classroom.

Raja supports his family through teaching
posted March 4, 2013

Raja is an economics student at Pachaiyappa’s College in Kanchipuram, a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He is in the final year of his studies and will soon receive a Bachelor of Arts for his efforts. He lost his father a few years ago and is now supporting his mother and sister.
Raja works at the Eureka SuperKidz Center and is grateful for the opportunity. The money he received for teaching ET2 (classes 4 and 5) students at the Eureka SuperKidz Center is very helpful, but beyond just money, he feels happy that he is well respected in his village for the teaching assignment he took up here. He is a driven and organized individual — he takes complete responsibility for maintaining the skill charts and the teaching materials that are provided to the center.
Thank you, Rao, for giving a young adult like Raja six months of salary! Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Three educators driven to help their communities
posted March 1, 2013

Thank you for supporting Eureka SuperKidz and collaborating to provide six months of salary to a teacher. An AID India Education Initiative, Eureka SuperKidz operates in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, where more than 50% of children in grades 3 to 5 are unable to read, write, and do basic math. Eureka offers after-school support classes that provide high quality education to children who have fallen behind and develop fun activities to keep the children involved. Your contributions help individuals like the three inspiring teachers described below.
Jayanthi is an ET1 tutor and is responsible for supporting students from classes one through three. It is clear she handles one of the most rambunctious and intelligent groups in the center. Jayanthi is pursuing her second year of teacher training and is only able to do so through donations like yours. She feels that being a tutor at the Eureka SuperKidz center helps her a lot in the course and gives her an edge above her classmates. She is grateful to be able to help the children of her village learn at a higher level.
Kasturi is the tutor for the smallest group in the center: the students in classes six through eight. She studies physics and is in her second year in pursuit of a Bachelor’s of Science. She is happy that her basic knowledge of her specialization has improved after she took up teaching here at the center. When asked what brought her to Eureka SuperKidz, she says that the children of her village should have more access to knowledge and better study practices than she did as a child.
Roja is the tutor for classes four and five; she is also a second-year college student pursuing her Bachelor’s of Science at the local arts and sciences college. She plans to become a chemistry teacher and provide quality teaching to more children. When asked why she wanted to become a tutor here at Eureka SuperKidz, Roja said it was her intention to spread knowledge. She added that when she was a student, she depended on her school to learn because her parents were uneducated. She looks at tutoring here as an opportunity to help children.
Thank you for providing an educator like these three with the opportunity to continue teaching and help the next generation in their community.

Your contributions helpp after-school support classes that provide high quality education to children who have fallen behind. They develop fun activities to keep the children involved.
Ranjith is a student in the fifth grade at the Government Tamil Medium School as well as a participant at the ESK center nearby. He feels that the best part about the ESK center is the learning activities, as they are fun-filled and easy to play. Ranjith and other children like him would not be able to benefit from these activities without your help.
Ranjil worships the Tamil language as it is his mother tongue. He is happy that Tamil is an area of focus throughout the center and is thankful for having developed his skills in the language. His parents work as laborers in the 100 day employment scheme of the government.
Thank you Rajeev, Gurmeet, Audra, Sachin, Subhash, Elena and Shanen, and Barbara for your kindness!

Jayasurya enthusiastically takes on challenges

Eureka offers after-school support classes that provide high quality education to children who have fallen behind and develop fun activities to keep the children involved.
As one enters the Eureka center and searches for the ET1 tutor (who teaches classes one to three), you would be taken by surprise to find a uniform clad 11th standard school student. Jayasurya, a 15 year old government-school student, is a proud ET1 tutor at the Thirupulivanam Eureka SuperKidz location. The help, support and wishes from you all gives Jayasurya the opportunity to help talented students explore beyond the formal school education.
When asked what brings her here, Jayasurya says it’s her passion to teach children. She adds that she enjoys teaching the most through Eureka Center. The enthusiastic teacher takes on challenges — here, she is seen spending extra time with her group student Lokesh to ensure he starts writing English. You can’t help but watch with a huge smile as Lokesh writes all the English letters in order with his best handwriting.
Thank you all for supporting Eureka SuperKidz and Jayasurya.

Priya loves to learn
posted October 9, 2012

Priya is a fifth grader in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. She is determined to become a doctor when she grows up. She once watched a Vijaykanth movie (that she can’t remember the name of) and decided that she, like the character in the movie, will serve the people of her village and make everybody live longer and better lives. Unlike most children her age, she has even paid careful attention to what doctors do on her few visits.
Her father, Ramesh, is a farmer who dropped out of school in the tenth grade. Priya’s mother is a housewife. They are concerned about whether they can afford to send Priya to medical school but are confident in their daughter’s ability to lift them out of their poverty stricken lives. They say that she was always a good student but the after-school classes offered by Eureka Superkidz have helped her sharpen her focus and better understand her lessons. She even introduced her family in impeccable English!
Priya confesses that while she loves her school work and Eureka classes, her favorite days of the week are Thursdays and Sundays because her Eureka tutor gets the class together to play games, such as “dog in the manger.”
Priya once said: “If I could change anything about the Eureka class I would make it as long as my school class. Akka [her instructor] is so much fun to learn with.”
Thank you Shilpa, Don, and Julian, for helping Priya reach her full potential.
